High Ropes Course
Details:
We are very proud to now offer a fantastic High Ropes Course for our visitors to use. Whereas the experience is as exciting to use as the nearby "Go Ape" facility, we have tried to make this more accessible and safer to use for the sorts of Groups who visit us at Great Tower. The Course consists of 14 elements, each of which may be booked separately on an hourly basis.
Instruction:
Qualifications - Each element needs someone to lead the group on the activity and that person requires two sets of skills (A and B below) for us to allow them to operate the element with a group
A - Ropes Skills - The leader needs a competence in climbing and suitable evidence of this for us is EITHER the person holds their SPA (Single Pitch Award) OR a Scout specific authorisation (Climbing Permit) to use the facilities at Great Tower. This shows us that they can belay correctly.
B - Local familiarisation - In addition to the skills above, the leader must have also undertaken a local familiarisation with each element that he/she wishes to operate.
Great Tower will provide regular opportunities for people to undertake this free training including a weekly session during the summer.
NB: Two of our elements (Zip Wire & Fan Descender) need more than the 15 minute familiarisation and for these, we run a full day course to include both these and all the other elements. Ask for further details on-site
Once a person has shown their evidence for (A) and undertaken the familiarisation session (B), we will record their details in our on-site log and from then on, they will be able to book and hire the appropriate elements to use with their own Groups.
Alternately, if you do not have access to a Leader with the skills in part A, we will be able to provide an instructor (Given sufficient notice) to lead the sessions for you although this obviously attracts an additional cost. Usual instructor costs are currently £70 for a half day and £130 for a full day
Timescales - Generally speaking, it is possible to get 12 people undertaking each element at once, usually 4 climbing and the other 8 belaying and an hour is sufficient time to swap around so everyone has a good turn. However, please remember that some time is also required to set up and to dismantle each element which would impinge upon the time if there was only one hour booked. It also takes time for the young people to get kitted out with harnesses and helmets so running a half day session on this activity proves to be better value that say running one hour per day over 3 days.
Price:
Self Help Fee:(Per Hour)
West Lancs - £18 Scouts/Guides - £20 Schools & Youth Groups - £25

Instructed Session Price depends upon Instructor availability but generally would be the Self-Help price plus £130 per full day.
